Robbie Davies Jr has long admired Kell Brook’s ring craft, but after joining the Sheffield man’s gym in December, the Liverpool fighter has found a new level of fondness for his stablemate. This Saturday, Brook makes his eagerly anticipated comeback when he takes on Mark DeLuca in a fight that is intended to be a springboard for bigger and lucrative contests later in the year. After spending time with Brook, Davies Jr is even more impressed with what he has seen.
“I’ve always rated him as fighter, and now I’m in camp with him, you can see how good he really is,” revealed Davies Jr when speaking exclusively to SportPesa. “He’s looked superb in the gym and he’s taking this fight so seriously after a long time out. I’m expecting a massive performance from Kell based on what I’ve seen in the gym and I think he’s going to do a real number on DeLuca and get a stoppage in the early rounds.”
On the remainder of Brook’s 2020, Davies Jr is confident that his training colleague can return to the gloried heights he once occupied. “You only have to look at Brook to know he’s capable of being at the highest level. He’s got a win over Shawn Porter, he’s proved he’s way above domestic level, and his only losses are against big P4P names like Gennady Golovkin and Shawn Porter. Brook definitely has what it takes to get back to the top and it all starts for him on Saturday when he does a great job on DeLuca.”
