Cheltenham Preview as Gold Cup Approaches

After a breathless couple of opening days at Cheltenham, the action is set to intensify as the festival gathers pace heading towards the Gold Cup climax on Friday. After enjoying success with our selections in our initial preview, we’re hoping to bring our audience more joy with a number of picks for day four.

Cheltenham Day Four: The Gold Cup

The biggest day on the schedule as a number of leading horses battle it out for the prestigious Gold Cup and the early money appears to be on Al Boum Photo and Santini. The former, the defending champion, is looking to be the first horse to retain the crown since Best Mate in 2004, but he faces a difficult task due to the high-quality strength of this year’s field. Analysing the line-up, Presenting Percy looks a solid pick to do well and with SportPesa currently pricing the horse at 10/1, that represents enough value for a horse that is a very capable performer.

The Cheltenham Chaser

One horse expected to go well on the festival’s closing day is Solo in the Triumph Hurdle. Currently hovering around the 3/1 mark with SportPesa, the Paul Nicholls trained beauty is earning a glowing profile with some impressive form heading into Cheltenham. Expect Solo to chased to the line by Goshen, but this is a venue where reputations are forged and Solo can amplify his with a tight victory. Finally on the last day, Monkfish, trained by Willy Mullins, can’t be ignored at 5/1. Although all eyes are expected to be on Thyme Hill, Monkfish arrives at Cheltenham on the back of some solid performances and he can add to that by going strong in the Novices Hurdle.
